Safety Instructions for ATV Safaris
Before Departure:
- Please bring your driving license. In Finland, at least a T-class license is required to operate an ATV.
- In case of an accident, the maximum liability is 2500€ per ATV/accident/driver. This means that if you crash the ATV, you will have to pay for damages up to a maximum of 2500€.
- If the cost of damages is less than 2500€, you only need to pay the actual repair costs.
- ATVs are insured in accordance with Finland’s Motor Liability Insurance Act. This insurance covers medical costs for injuries sustained by the driver, passenger (if applicable), and any third parties, in accordance with the insurance terms.
- Personal travel insurance is still highly recommended.
- Always wear a helmet and ensure it is securely fastened.
- Listen carefully to your guide and follow their instructions.
- Check that your clothing and gear are suitable, especially warm, windproof layers.
While Driving:
- Always maintain a safe distance from the ATV in front of you.
- Never overtake others without the guide’s permission.
- Follow the speed limits and other route restrictions.
- Do not drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications.
- Adjust your driving position to be comfortable: not too far or too close to the handlebars. Passengers should sit behind the driver and hold the handles tightly. Keep your feet on the footrests at all times.
- ATVs are easy to control. Use the throttle and brakes cautiously and smoothly.
- You steer the ATV with the handlebars and by shifting your body weight. In turns, lean your body towards the inside of the curve.
- Do not attempt to start the ATV yourself; the experienced safari guides will handle this for you.
On the Route:
- Follow the route signs and stay within the marked paths.
- If you encounter an obstacle or a dangerous situation, inform your guide immediately.
- Do not leave the ATV without permission or a valid reason.
- During the ride, we use hand signals for communication. Repeat the guide’s hand signals to ensure the message reaches everyone.
Hand Signals:
- LEFT HAND UP: Prepare to stop.
- The stop may be 20 or 50 meters ahead, but we will stop soon. Park your ATV as close to the one in front of you as possible to create a tight queue.
- LEFT HAND UP AND DOWN: Start moving.
- LEFT HAND WAVING: Slow down and be cautious.
- There might be an obstacle, a sharp turn, oncoming traffic, or an animal on the trail, so slow down and pay extra attention.
- CROSSED HANDS: This signal is for guides only. It means: “Stay on the ATV and do not move or leave.”
- The guide may need to check the situation before proceeding.
In Case of Emergencies:
- If you encounter an issue during the safari, raise your left hand and park your ATV. Your guide will assist you.
- Stay calm and wait for the guide’s instructions.
- Use the emergency stop or emergency phone if necessary.
General Rules:
- Respect nature and the environment. Dispose of your waste responsibly.
- Guides are obligated to interrupt the safari if they notice anyone acting irresponsibly or dangerously.
- Guides are responsible for the group and have the authority to stop the safari if a participant poses a danger to themselves or others or is unwell.
Enjoy your ride safely and follow the given instructions!
