Safety Instructions for Jet Ski Safaris
Before Departure:
- Please bring your driving license. In Finland, at least a T-class license is required to operate a jet ski.
- In case of an accident, the maximum liability is €2500 per jet ski/accident/driver. This means that if you cause damage, you will have to pay up to a maximum of €2500.
- If the cost of the damage is less than €2500, you only need to pay the actual repair costs.
- Jet skis are insured according to Finland’s Motor Liability Insurance Act. This insurance covers medical costs for injuries sustained by the driver, passenger (if applicable), and third parties in accordance with the insurance terms.
- Personal travel insurance is still recommended.
- Always wear a life jacket and ensure it is securely fastened.
- Listen carefully to the guide’s instructions and follow them.
- Check that your equipment is in order, including waterproof clothing and sun protection (sunscreen, hat).
While Driving:
- Always maintain a safe distance from the jet ski in front of you.
- Follow the route restrictions and the speed limits set by the guide.
- Do not operate the jet ski under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
- Adjust your position for comfort. Your seating position should be stable, and your hands should grip the handlebars firmly.
- Jet skis steer using throttle power. Steering will not work if you are not applying the throttle, so maintain a steady speed for control.
- The left handle controls the brake or reverse gear (if equipped), while the right handle operates the throttle. Use them smoothly and avoid sudden movements.
- Lean slightly into turns and avoid abrupt shifts in weight.
- Never overtake others without the guide’s permission.
On the Water:
- Follow the guide’s route and stay within the designated areas.
- Avoid driving too close to swimmers, boats, or other jet skis.
- If you encounter an obstacle, notify the guide immediately.
- Do not leave the jet ski without permission or a valid reason.
- Use hand signals for communication, and repeat the guide’s signals so the entire group is aware of the instructions.
Hand Signals:
- HAND UP: Prepare to stop.
- Slow down and get ready to stop safely.
- HAND UP AND DOWN: Start moving.
- HAND WAVING SIDE TO SIDE: Slow down and be cautious.
- There may be waves, obstacles, or other traffic ahead.
- HANDS CROSSED ABOVE THE HEAD: This signal is for guides only and means: “Stay in place and do not move.”
In Case of Emergencies:
- If you encounter any issues, raise your hand and stop. Your guide will assist you.
- Stay calm and wait for the guide’s instructions.
- Use the emergency stop (kill switch) if necessary.
General Rules:
- Respect nature and waterways. Do not litter and avoid creating noise in sensitive areas.
- Guides are obligated to interrupt the safari if they notice participants behaving irresponsibly or dangerously.
- Guides are responsible for the group and can stop the safari if anyone poses a danger to themselves or others or is unwell.
Enjoy your jet ski safari responsibly and safely!
